Sunday Secrets 09.20.2010

These are my 3 favorites for whatever reason :) I like the one with the kids. Just because someone has shitty parents or parents who couldn't provide, doesn't mean the kids are bad or undeserving. I am lucky to have awesome ones, but y'all know what i'm saying. Break the cycle. Spread love!

Michael Jordan doesn’t owe me shit.

I recently had a discussion with someone I truly respect and often times have educated (and sometimes downright stupid LOL) conversations with. We came up on the subject of Michael Jordan. He made the statement that he should really do something more for basketball and owes us that. I literally gasped! I said “are you fucking serious??”… and he was.

Oh boy here we go.

I’m not one of those I’m all over Jordan’s nuts people. I’ve bought his shoes. I don’t got a man, so I don’t buy Hanes nor do I fully understand the extent of bacon-neck-ness, I watched Jordan and Pippen in the 80s and was in awe like everyone else. So am I a fan? – hell yes. Will I name my kids Jordan? – um, probably not.

So there’s my history, back to the discussion.

Michael Jordan doesn’t owe us shit.

If he’d like to share his knowledge and open up Michael Jordan School of Business or Michael Jordan how to Get a Sucker in the background of one of your posters School… cool. But other than that he is a man who is still involved in basketball in a capacity I personally see fit.

Should he be an analyst or sportscaster sitting next to Marv Albert? Sure! But only if that’s what he wants to do…

Should he stop doing commercials? Sure! But only if that’s what he wants to do…

Should he donate money to basketball programs and people less fortunate? YES, and he does already.

And that’s just the surface stuff. The lasting impression Jordan has made on kids who are now adults who understand sportsmanship and play ball with their kids in the driveway is priceless.

Bottom line: Michael Jordan doesn’t owe us shit because when a kid says “Dad, I’ll be LeBron” that Dad says “OK son, I’ll be Jordan…”

Met Kat Badar and Jeff Bernat last December while hosting a fundraiser for Autism Research and the floods in the Philippines. I'm a fan. This is beautiful...
